Valmiera Library
At a European level, we envision libraries as accessible spaces and gatekeepers of trustworthy knowledge and intellectual debate for society as a whole, fostering a sustainable dialogue, resilience and critically open mindset.
Located in northern Latvia, Valmiera Library is the main regional library of Valmiera county and has 31 branch libraries. It is a bright point in the Latvian Network of Light combining knowledge, resources, and a common vision for libraries as inclusive, reliable, and open spaces for everybody in the local community and beyond.
In Latvia, Valmiera Library serves as a unique source of inspiration for libraries, librarians, and municipalities to build bridges between different institutions and shine light on the possibilities for collaboration. The local community knows and calls the library as Valmiera Joint Library, a combination of Valmiera Library and Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences Library. It is a meeting point for different generations and interest groups, a place to socialize, find new partners, and discuss topical issues from a local to a European level.
