Kranj City Library
Libraries are not just buildings filled with books; they are vital hubs of knowledge, community, and innovation.
The Mestna knjižnica Kranj (Kranj City Library) is a regional public library serving the residents of Kranj and its surrounding municipalities. As a vital cultural, educational, and informational institution, it plays a key role in promoting reading, family literacy, health literacy, lifelong learning, and strengthening the social fabric of the community. We are dedicated to fostering a more equitable society—one in which every individual has access to knowledge, information, culture, and equal opportunities. Through inclusive, creative, collaborative, and innovative services, the library acts as a beacon of progress and cultural development at the local, national, and European levels. It is a space of safety, openness, and connection—a “third place” that exists both physically and digitally.
Our approach is holistic and future-oriented. We develop tecnical services such as Kreativnica and sustainable services for citizen science initiatives, which empower individuals and communities to engage in creative and research-based activities. As an active partner in achieving climate goals, the library supports the City of Kranj’s participation in the EU Mission “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030,” to which it contributes through environmentally responsible practices and community engagement. By implementing people-friendly solutions and promoting sustainable development across its operations and programs, Kranj City Library reinforces its commitment to a resilient and inclusive future.
