PL2030 is partnering with NewsGuard to boost media literacy skills through public libraries in Europe.  As well as installing the Internet Trust Tool on public access computers to fight disinformation, NewsGuard are working to launch a holistic media literacy programme in European libraries.

We know that many of Europe’s 65,000 libraries are already working hard to ensure their users get access to trustworthy information – indeed as local community hubs run by trained information professionals they are uniquely placed to do so!

We want you!

So we want to hear your media literacy story: what has your library been doing to promote media literacy? And what impact has this had on the local community? PL2030 will select the winner to feature on our website and receive $500, thanks to NewsGuard.

How to enter

Send a short description (max. 500 words) about your programme and its impact along with a few photos to info@pl2030.eu.  The deadline is 28/02/2020 and the winner will be notified shortly after.

To be eligible, your initiative must:

  • Be in a library (or organization working within a library) in Europe
  • Must have taken place in the last year
  • Deal with media literacy

Background

NewsGuard offers librarians a practical tool for news literacy. Its browser extension rating and providing Nutrition Labels for news websites can be downloaded onto computers used by patrons at no cost to libraries. NewsGuard is expanding its news literacy efforts in 2020 and in the years ahead and has created a Board of Advisors for its News Literacy programmes. Our Director, Ilona Kish, has joined this board along with other representatives from schools, libraries, universities and non-profits in the U.S and Europe. She will advise NewsGuard on its development of educational programmes and resources as well as its core product.

NewsGuard has committed a donation of $500 per board member to a school, library, or nonprofit of our choosing in recognition of the support they provide. We are excited to be able to select an initiative from a European library to receive this contribution and we need your help in picking one!
